Bard's Tale IV 2004 Petitions 883-1087

I spent more time playing the Bard's Tale series than any game before or since. At the time it was the best game I ever played and it is still the most memorable. I GUARANTEE that I would buy a copy of an updated sequel and I'm sure several of my friends would as well. One of my freinds still brings up the Gray Wizards almost every time I see him - that had to be the toughest battle I've ever seen in a video game.

I've been waiting for a new BARD for a long time. I hope Bard's Tale 2004 is just a good as the original ones. Mystery and puzzles supported by Hack-n-Slash. The new games with just kill or be killed doesn't require a brain. Bard's Tale required thought and effort. CWH

I would buy three copies of Bard's Tale IV. One copy for me, and one for each of my brothers. I still clearly remember the Christmas morning when our father bought us a C64. It was set up in the family room and we all gathered around as my oldest brother installed The Bard's Tale. It took about 5 minutes to load off of a 5 1/4 inch floppy disk. I think we even needed to make a boot disk or save disk before it started. Then we started our first mass gaming effort, complete with graph paper maps of the town and all the dungeons. I was too young to play so I just watched. It was awesome! This game is legendary and I want more. My three favourite games of all time are: The Bard's Tale, Dungeon Master, and Wolfenstine 3D. I submit this petition to join the rest.

I would really like to see it redone. I was never a pen and paper D & D player, and this game - though it wasnt core D & D introduced me to RPG's. I still have the games, even the somwhat disappointing Bards Tale Construction Set and Bards 3.

Haven't played many games after completing the Bard's Tale trilogy and the similar Dragon Wars. Always was disappointed with other games ability to provoke my imagination. Can guarantee that i will purchase any new games in the series. Would really be pleased if you updated the original series to run on the windows operating system. David

you all know how brilliant the BARD'S series of games were for their day.I love r.p.g's of that style and would not hesitate a purchase if available. I suppose it is only a dream to hope for the whole set to be re-released in the new format???? The most enjoyable game to engulf me at present is MORROWIND and i hope BARD'S will be similar. As a part time gamer, there is 3 things that sway me against a game.1-everything online(shits off a lot of my friends). 2-MAGICIANS, too much zap & blast, spells this, spells that, swords&axes, in their face stuff.3-ai taking control of combat, click on the party, click on the enemy and wait! small groups are fine, but 1 main character,on his own.

One memory iin particular was how hard we laughed at the 'Holy Handgrenade' and when it came time to divying out treasure - there was always a debate! BRING BACK BARD'S TALE - with BTIV!!!!!

Fargo has made clear that the new game is not a continuation of the series but it's own entity. If there was indeed a Bard's Tale IV almost released then why not give it out to those loyal fans who helped create the genre? We would love to get our hands on whatever else might be out there even if it's unpolished.

#961

Presently, movie watchers and game players tend to agree that the visual effects in today's production are amazing, but that the substance is missing. Take Lord of the Rings for example, amazing, but not a resently written plot. The gentlemen who designed The Bard's Tales (and Wasteland) have created classics that endure today, despite their visual shotcomings. Give these guys a chance to make a new classic, and you will be richly rewarded ... it will sell, and sell big. After all, how many people turned down Peter Jackson's idea ... wouldn't you like a piece of that pie! Don't miss the forest for the trees. Have a nice day.

There's been a lack of party based classic RPG's lately, and a "Bard's Tale IV" would fill that gap nicely, bringing classic game fans and new ones to the counter to buy it. A fairly free form game, perhaps skill based, such as "Morrowind" but party oriented, would be great fun.

I have been waiting patiently for them to bring back another edition to the GREATEST RGS series ever. I would even settle until finally decide to bring out BT 4. A revamp on Bard's Tale 1,2,3 w/ current graphics. They did it w/ Wizardy Gold, and that was a great game. I first had it on the Amiga, and still compare all my RPG's to those games. COME GUYS! We need great REAL RPG'S Back! .

One of the first, original and playeable RPG's on my computer, I still have a vivid memory on the Bard's Tale. I do not remember if I ever finished the games (I do remember I got nuts from looking to always the same dungeon scenery) but they were fun to play. It is my sincere hope they will relaunch the concept, but with today's graphics and sounds. Keep linked into the original story though, for that was what the game was all about. Best Regards Bart Van Brabant

I grew up playing the Bard's Tale games and boy were they challenging. The games really kept me glued to my old C128 for a very long time. The story was good, the riddles tricky, battle was a real challenge and the music was great then. So where is part 4?! It's sure long overdue. Bring it on!

I've been playing Bard's Tale games since fifth grade. They are far more challenging and in-depth than most games out now. As a Taler, I scoff at games such as Diablo II. Games today have lost their challenge edge. Bard's Tale III, at 900K, is a better game than many of the multi-CD boondoggles that masquerade as real fantasy adventure games today. Bard's Tale IV would profitable, fun and have a cult status instantly. Make it now!

The Bard's Tale series was one of the most addicting RPG-Experiences I had to this day. The choice of classes and items for example was sheer unbelievable especially for this time. We've seen a very successful ressurection of an old RPG series. I am talking about Morrowwind, the only RPG worth playing to me right now. I am convinced a Bard's Tale IV could do even better.

BT 1, 2, 3 have spawned generations and legions of fans. Even now, 10 years after playing BT 3 for the first time, I was overjoyed to find all three in an RPG Collection pack. I am now in the process of replaying all 3 and getting that old nostalgia feeling the whole time. I would love to see a BT 4 game come out... I would be first in line to buy it.

I played all 3 Bard's Tale games back in the 80's and just recently began playing them again on an Amiga emulator. I would absolutely LOVE to see a new Bard's Tale game come out. Devil Whiskey had promise, but the fact that you can beat the game twice and not get all of the spells really turned me off of it.

Please Please Please... We were a bunch of friends (and some of their fathers) that played BT III when it hit the shelves for the C64. I can honestly say there has never been a game that has captured my imagination more than that game - even though BT II that I played after completing BT III came pretty close. If I not mistaken I do believe that a BT IV was planned and that development was begun - but for some reason it was never completed. The thing with the Bards Tale series (for me anyway) is not the grafics or any thing in that regard - it is merely the soul - the story of the game that I so dearly wish revived. Best Regards, Kim Callesen

Bards tale serries are the best role playing games around. They even bring the feeling of the pen and paper D&D especially with no auto mapping. A sequal would be eaten up by many fans right on the first day of sale. I would suggest to have auto mapping an option where you could opt out and do it on paper like before. THank you so much for the adventures they have been great!! Simeon

Considering most of us are "old timers" by now, I don't have the dexterity like I used to have to play these action rpg games that they have now and they shouldn't call them an RPG just because it has a guy running around with a damn sword. Because everything is now all real time action, little attention is paid to content like what the Bard's Tale provided for us back then and thus no replay value for the current RPGs. To me, it was all about content, tons of choices, and turn based game play that made it special. Thats why Final Fantasy got so popular on the Playstation. There's a market for it out there and someone will do it if not EA. Their idiots if they think all gamers have the millisecond reflexes of a trigger happy ten year old. And that new 3D action Bards Tale coming out from Acclaim should make Michael Cranford puke.

In a time where shooters dominate the gaming market, another quality CRPG is long overdue. InXile's upcoming game is a good sign this trend could change in the not-so-distant future, as is the release of sequels to old series like Leisure Suit Larry. I hope that EA and Interplay will realize that the old game series like The Bard's Tale are worth resurrecting.

We seriously need to get back to making GOOD games again. BT4 could potentially bring back the joy of old RPGs. These days, it's all 3D engines and action, and it's simply not fun anymore. Looking at the Bard's Tale for PS2/X-Box coming out soon, it just confirms what I'm saying. Here was the chance to finally do something good, and what did they do? Just another boring 3D RPG with action elements. Baah. Continue like this and the gaming industry will go down the toilet for sure. It's hardly a coincidence the retro scene is so huge right now.. People want GOOD games, and they are simply not made anymore. 3D engines may be flashy and exciting, but really, it's like saying to art aficionados that video is the only medium that counts, and still pictures are boring. Yeah, right. Bring back the good old turn-based 2D context, it has plenty of life left in it!

Ye GODS YES! In a world filled with Doom and Diablo, where great games of the past like Wizardry and Ultima have died off or gone on to greener, on-line gaming-only pastures, there MUST be room for a simple, fun, dungeon & town romp like Bard's Tale! I played the first one nigh unto DEATH as a kid on my c-64 (having traded in my Apple II plus and it's Wizardry floppy away). I learned how to "cheat" the game and get multiples of items and gold by leaving a version on-screen, changing disks and then saving to the new disk, then taking it out and going back to the game. I could then trade the item to a new "bank" char and then delete the original character. Pull out the "save" disk and re-load the original char and his equipment list, which still retains the desired item, and voila, a duplicate of a crystal sword or a figurine or 1000000 gold pieces! Heheheh! Good times! Can't do that with hard drives, y'know! I would love a new version, to play on the current windows system. (What would be great is an updated coding of the old trilogy, plus the new game, in a pack to amuse and delight a new audience that can't run old DOS versions on the XP system!) You have my vote and I'd pledge whatever money would get me one of the first shipments!

The Bard's Tale saga, followed by Dragon Wars, is the single best saga of games ever made. If you take them all as one game, it is easily the best game ever made. There have been games made since that are far superior in the way of graphics and animation, but no game has ever captured the essence of role playing in a computer game like the Bard's Tale series. I regularly go back and play these games once every year or so. I would love it if another installment was released. My only request would be to not make it like current computer role playing games. Do not make it necessary to use the mouseand, there do not need to be a huge amount of fancy graphics. Simply expand upon the original games, and it will a huge success. Thanks, Derek

I can remember siting arround the barracks in 1987 watching a fellow Marine working his way threw a new type of game (The Bards Tale). It was awsome for its time, and when I got my own C64 the first game I bought for it was .... you guessed it ... The Bards Tale. It was my turn to create and controll my own characters .. and I played it untill I burned up my first c64 and swaped it out for a new one ... MEMORIES !! .. Gameing has come along way .. just as everything else has ... BUT ... there remains one constant .. Gamers like me .. and companys and individuals that want to make games for them .. Todays "modern" Marines are siting arround there xboxes, playstations, and pc's playing all sorts of car chase games and first person shooter games .. and even going online for the character based games... isnt it about time to get off you collective %$$^$ and give them what they want .. what we want .. a continuation of the grandaddy of them all .. THE BARDS TALE specifically the next instalment "IV" .. I would consider it your patriotic duty to do so ... from my history and point of view on this subject ... oh btw .. I have a coppy of your RPG archives so that I could have a modern pc version of the Bards Tale Trillogy . do you realise what I had to go threw to get it ... and I did ... that is the point .. so whats the hold up ... we want it .. no make that demand it .. we are your customer base .. so make it .. respectfully former USMC MSGT ret. Um, if everybody wants a Bard's Tale style game, they should pick up Dragon Wars (1989), which was originally designed to be the fourth in the Bard's Tale saga. Game play is nearly identical, and although it doesn't say "The Bard's Tale," just because Interplay didn't go for #4 in the '80s doesn't mean we can't enjoy Dragon Wars, in the spirit of the original idea. I remember carrying Bard's Tale2 to school to read the manual back in high school. A guy asked me what it was and started telling me about D&D. That conversation led to me playing and 12 years later, I am still friends with many from that D&D crowd. PLEASE make a TRUE update to the classics. I would love to see the original 3 just remade with up to date graphics. BTW, get Dragon Bane 1 and 2 for your pocket pc from www.mythological.com its JUST like the bard's tale engine.

The bard's tale games were some of my most favorite pc games of all time. I would really love to see a BT4 made but I don't want to see a game that the graphics come first and the game comes second which seems to be the norm for RPG games nowadays.
