I remember playing Bard's Tale II and III on Commodore 64 and still have both games (and oddly enough several C64s). Later, I found a copy of BT1 for PC and played it for years. I recently conned my brother (another fan) into buying the trilogy in the Ultimate RPG set so I could have all three games on the same computer. The idea of a BT4 just blew my mind so if need be I'll storm Interplay or Electronic Arts if it will help in getting the game released. I don't care what format the game is in so long as I can use my original characters (With all the hacked abilities) and the game retains the charm of the other three.

I'm a avid gamer of classic games. I mean classic game like Bard's tale series !!! They are great and has a certain reminiscence factor. I'm sure the uncles and aunties will buy them too! I believe Singaporeans will support this new old game.

BT4???? Please, please, please please please create BT4.. I spent from 6am to midnight playing BT3 on my parents C64 for weeks and weeks when it came out however many decades ago it was. Maybe wizardry 7 came close but nothing else. I wanna play a real CRPG again, with a party and stats and monsters and treasure and all that. Pretty graphics? Fine. Digitised actors, NOT!!!!!!
Stick to hand drawn art. In fact check out LOL2 and see how NOT to do a CRPG. I liked MM6 a lot, and i have high hopes for MM7, tho i know i shouldn't, having been let down so many times before :-) As for the excuse of expense huh?? I don't want a dang digitized 3d enhanced interactive movie pile of you-know-what, i want a real RPG with a plot and a story and a party of characters that go up levels or can improve their skills or even both.
I want numbers for health or at least a choice between numbers and bars for ppl that like the bars instead. How expensive is a decent plot? I wouldn't care if the graphics were like the construction set, tho i reckon that bt3 on the C64 was the best looking of the lot. In fact take a look at Grimoire which seems to be a wizardry clone, tho a good looking one from the info on www.isn.net/~plandry/grim01.htm. That is what a CRPG should be, more of it, more more more :-)
Anyway Please please please please please please please please please please please please create BT4. Please. with sugar on top and all that :-)

I have been a fan of Bard's Tale since first playing on my Commodore 128 back in the 80's. I loved the unique scenario and the playing system. I was very sad and disappointed when they did not continue the series. I had to go to Wizardry, and Dungeon Master and all that. I know that if EA decided to come out with Bard's Tale IV, I would definately be buying it! I would also volunteer for beta testing and all the who shibang!

My name is Steven Schlenske and I want Bard's Tale 4. I ALMOST finished the first bard's tale when it first came out, but then we moved and I lost the disk. I always regreted not finnishing it, and not picking up the other two. I got the ulitmate rpg pack just a few days ago, just so I could play that game again, to relive that time. I know every single crpg I have ever played has ALWAYS been compared to my exprience with Bards tale, and I have yet to find one as fun. I beg of you, bring us a fourth one. you have alittle time, I have only had the ulimate rpg pack for two days, so I am only on the first bards tale.

In the beginning, there were only 2: The Bard's Tale, and Might and Magic. And of these 2, The Bard's Tale was superior in almost every way. It was the definition of a good rpg, and all others tried to be like it was. And then.... it disappeared. Might and Magic did not, however, and it evolved into a truly great series, starting with M&M III. What would have happened if The Bard's Tale had been allowed to continue? No....what *would* happen if The Bard's Tale *IS* allowed to continue? This is a game that has been begging for a sequel for years now - it is truly overdue. If there is anyone related to this classic game that wants to do a sequel, then it is only right that they be allowed to do so. Don't hold it back further, hindering it from reaching it's full potential. Back in the days of the C64, I spent countless hours mesmerized by the world of TBT. Fancy graphics were not only unimportant, but unneccesary, because I saw the world as clearly in my mind as if I saw it with my own eyes. But now that the graphics can actually match, and possibly exceed, my vision, what wonders would be accomplished with a sequel? If anyone gets this who has any say in the matter, PLEASE for me and hundreds of other gamers like me, work to make The Bard's Tale 4 a reality. Thank you.

Add me to the list! I've been waiting for this game for years! Back in the early 90's, I heard a rumor from a friend that the Bard's Tale IV was in production and was near completion. This interested me greatly as I was still playing through the trilogy at the time. I was so disappointed to learn of the game being cancelled. I do not care if EA releases the BT IV with VGA or even pre-VGA graphics, the gameplay is what counts and that is why I am still playing the original BT's still to this day. I can still remember how amazing the BT's world was when I first played it back on my Commodore 64. Wow... Well, I should be telling this to EA and I will. So add me to the list, please.

The Bard's Tale has been an influential part of my childhood and carries on into adulthood. It's years later and I still have those bard songs going in my head, both the original ones (apple IIe, C64, atari) and the new ones (Amiga, Apple IIGS). I love these songs, but it's not just that, I played and beat Dragon Wars, a Bard's Tale style game that has no Bard songs, but it was so cool because the style of play. Even if Bard's Tale IV is more like ultima, I love Ultima games, too. I strongly dislike the games that are available today. Poor story and poor game design are hidden behind the great graphics that computers are now capable of. I no longer play games anymore because their aren't that many good ones around. I would pay money for Bard's Tale IV. There is no question. Name the price.

What made The Bard's Tale great (all of them) was the true single- player RPG format. Guiding a party of diverse characters is so much intriguing than what I see today. I would love to see a better graphics set than what BTIII left us with, and maybe a bit more interaction with the surroundings. Maybe even animated NPC's(?). Whatever the shape, bring on Bard's Tale IV!

The Bard's Tale is one of the best RPG series created. As one of the two original games that started the genre, this series reamains a classic. I am currently purchasing the series and would be interested in Bard's Tale IV. I was playing these on the Apple IIE when they were released and even purchased the NES version.

BT1 was one of the first games I played -- I was 9, on an Apple II e. That and Ultima I are the two main reasons that I'm currently a computer-game-aholic. I never had the opportunity to play BT2 until I found a copy just recently, and I'm playing it now. When I got BT3, I decided right then and there that I was going to learn how to program and learn everything else I could about computers. Thirteen years after the first time I saw Bard's Tale, I still love them, I'm still playing them, and now I'm a Software Engineer.
Bard's Tale IV would be a gift from the gods. Anyone at EA want a programmer to do the work? I've got several friends who also love the games and would love to work on a new one.... Lemme get you a few more signatures....

I love Bard's Tale. I've been nsitting around in my Dorm room for a few months and recently a buddy of mine re-intodued me to the games. I even went out and got myself a C64 emulator so I could feel like I was 9 years old again playing on my Commodore. I used to love these games, and now I play them all the time, again. Granted this hasn't done wonders for my social life, I would absolutely love to see another version come out. After finishing the last three (which means beating BT1, dying miserably in Oscon's fortress, and getting HOPElessly lost in Malefia) it would make my day to step into some game store and see Bard's Tale IV. I'd be willing to dish out quite a bit for it.
Thanks.

I would love to see another Bard's Tale!! I don't care if it the graphics are the same as the old ones, or if the latest technology is used. The Bard's Tale was the very first computer game I had ever bought, and I played it for hours on my 086 computer back in the day. I enjoyed each release after the first one, but the powergaming style of the third Bard's Tale seemed to loose my interest. The original game, with its slow advancement in experience, made the game for me. It was a challenge I will always go back and play again and again.
Sign me up,

I played Bards Tale first in 87 would love to play an updated version for nostalgia reasons if nothing else would keep me enthused. I like the magic system and the use of Bards. Plus the miriad of classes available. I would pay up to $75 for a Bards tale game that is on a similar scale to other RPG's on the market today. I would pay $35 for Bards Tale IV programmed in a 1992/93 style.

My name is Rune Bech. I am from Denmark. I liked/like the earlier BT games (especially on the AMIGA when I had that) and I therefore want to give my signature with the hope that we will see a new game in the series. I just hope it will be with the same kind of elements (engine to control the game) perhaps with some improved graphics and SOUND.

Please add my name to the Bard's Tale IV petition. The Bard's Tale series was, and still is, one of my all-time favorite RPG series for the computer.
I started playing Bard's Tale I when it was first released for the Apple IIC and have never stopped liking it. All three games remain classics to this day. Given the state of today's gaming market, I believe that an RPG would be welcome, especially one whose roots lie so firmly planted in the development of the gaming market, alongside those of Ultima and Wizardry and Might and Magic, three game series that are still churning out excellent products to this day.

If Electronic Arts were to create a sequel to the Bard's Tale Series, I would have no doubt about the amount of money that could be made from such a product. I believe this is true due to the success of other companies in the RPG genre. For example, Betrayal on Krondor and Betrayal in Antara, by Sierra Online or Baldur's Gate and Ultima Online by Interplay.
Also, with the release of the new Bard's Tale, Electronic Arts could release Bard's Tale in their original PC splendor and pull the same trick George Lucas pulled with the re-release of the STAR WARS trilogy on Silver Screen.
All in all I think creating Bard's Tale IV would be a great marketing plan for Electronic Arts.
Signed,
Rob Kirkland
P.S. I also think EA should try to make their packages modeled after the old Bard's Tale Boxes because those are so much more easy to manage.

I loved all of the times that I played Bard's Tale on my Apple 2 E. Since I was able to read I've always had the ferver to play the game. From the monster creations to the spell lists that seem to go on forever, I love most every aspect that Bard's Tale has. I was not fortunate enough to play Bard's Tale II but I did play Bard's Tale I and III Thief of Fate. I played both of them a very long time and beat 1 but never fully completed III. If IV would be anything like III or I I would like it. Added monsters and technology would always be good but one thing that I did like about Bard's Tale was the format of the gamesetup. With the graphics in the box at the top left hand corner of the screen and the text scroller at the top right hand side of the screen. Along with the character stats below. As for pay, I would say that money is no object but I can't. I would say that I would be willing to pay more than the average game price for it though.

I would definitly like to see a bard's tale 4! the only things i didn't like about the old games was the old graphics.
Also, my Grandfather was a big Bard's tale fan and had almost beaten bard's tale 1 for the 5th time before he died. a bard's
tale 4 would be perfect to complete my collection of games. I already own bard's tale 1 and 2 and dragon wars so 3 and 4
would easily find a spot on my harddrive. thanks

I've been waiting for this opportunity for years! I haven't found a game that could keep me in front of my computer since y played BT III in my Amiga 500 almost 10 years ago. It's incredible that computers and software developed so much into VR games and forgot about the essential idea of having a game backed up with a real story. I'd do anything to have a BT IV, V, VI........n, running on my computer. I've spent a lot of time reading Tolkien's books again and again, and turned my computer into working area exclusively, because of the lack of creativity and imagination y found on actual games. It seems to me that people at EA don't understand that if they develop games full of effects and technological mumbo jambo, they take away the chance of letting the gamer use its own imagination. No director can create an image as captivating as the ones each of us can create within the realms of our own imagination. Actual RPG wanna-be games are easy and boring, I'm begging for a game that can capture me for months like the three Bard's Tales did. Contact me if you need any help in your quest for BT IV.

Bard's Tale is my favorite game of all time. This is the game that made me an Interplay fan, and has kept me buying Interplay Software for about fourteen years. If BTIV was released, there would have to be considerable attention to detail. Remember, thousands of BT fans will be watching! Finally, every video game magazine and website would give Interplay/Electronic Arts more free publicity than they could possibly imagine.
If it was announced today that BTIV was going into production, then I would preorder it immediately. I know that a lot of people out there feel the same way I do. That could be a lot of working capital.
Besides, I know hundreds of people out there that would work on the game for free!

Well, this e-mail goes to petition Bard's Tale IV. I've enjoyed BT I, II and want to get BT III in order to play a lot. But... what will happen when I finish it? (and I'm SURE I'll do, one day). I'll be lost, because there is NO Bard's Tale IV!!

Please forward this, if possible, to the president of EA..
The 5 1/4 drive of my Commodore 64 whirred away, loading a game that at first I thought I might not enjoy. I'd never played an RPG before. I had dabbled in Dungeons and Dragons like my brothers but never really took interest. The title screen came up-The Bard's Tale. Hmm..Interesting. Nice graphics. OK-onto the game. Wow-this one's different. It's text but..not..
These initial thoughts were followed by 3 hours of game playing. My stalwart band of adventurers got killed more times than I care to count, but luckily I had my brother's party (he had played and won the game) to bring mine back to life (thanks Merlin!). Eventually I tracked down Mangar and, well, kicked his arse. I learned of Bard's Tale II and had it in my hot little hand the next day. Awesome gameplay-same feel-wow! A Destiny Knight! Gandalf the gnome can't be killed! I never saw the Sage as Lagoth Zanta!! What a plot!!! Along comes Bard's Tale III-you get to fight a god! WOW! New spells-new class-same great RPG feeling. Then 11 years pass and I think The Bard's Tale saga is gone forever, and mourn the death of a great RPG. I stumbled across a few websites that paid homage to one of the greatest games of all time and found mention of a Bard's Tale IV that was never released. I was shocked-why would a company not release the sequel to one of the hottest-selling RPGs of all time?? The market has changed and games like Quake, Warcraft, Diablo and the such reign, but I have to say that my taste for RPGs has not-and my love for the Bard's Tale series has not diminished. I urge you, as a devoted fan, to please release Bard's Tale IV. I understand that it was nearly complete-it may be outdated but I would love to fire it up on my old C64 or my PC and play it-just for the title. I have no doubt that probably millions of others are waiting, like I am, for the sequel. Don't disappoint the fans of one of the games that got your company where it is today. Bring back the Bard!
Sincerely, Todd Walters

My first experience with the Bard's tale series was Bard's Tale III for my old C-64. I fell in love with it, spent hours playing it with my friend. I had also purchased the original Bard's tale for my old Nintendo. I had spent almost 8 years trying to find the complete series, until I heard Interplay was peleasing the URPG Pack. I was extremely happy. I have been playing it for a while now, trying to get reaquainted with it on my new computer...Kinda hard to play it whith a PII 450...it's a lot faster then the C-64 for some reason..heheh...I had heard about people spreading rumors about a possible fourth title...I've been trying to find more info on BTIV...Hoping that Interplay would cave in and authorize some lucky programmer to design it. (It would be nice if the gang that did number 3 could return for number 4) It is just about the right time for a 4th installment...With the computer technology we have now, I believe the 4th one would be awesome. Bard's Tale Adventurers have waited long enough. It is definately time.

Dear Sirs;
I have been a Bard's Tale fan for many years. My first computer was a Commador 64c on which I played the first of my Bard's Tale games. As a matter of fact, it was the first game I purchased myself for the machine. I had originally bought the machine for the writing and storing of my stories, yet I found the Bard's Tale games a good way to relax and give my creativity a jump start when I hit a "writer's wall".
I came to own all but the Bard's Tale Construction Set on that 64 and had worked all the way through 1, part of 2 and had just started 3 when I replaced my Commador with an PackardBell PC. I tried to find the Bard's Tale set for the PC at that time, but could only find the BT Construction Set. This annoyed me and I finally gave up looking.
Later, I found myself playing with emulation programs to just so I could play Bard's Tale. I had to have two emulation programs: one for the Apple IIe version of BT1 and one for the Amiga versions of BT2 and BT3.
Well, needless to say, I was ecstatic when I found The Ultimate RPG Archives from Interplay on my local computer stores stands. I passed up Diablo, Warcraft, and some other topselling games just to buy it.
Just today I learned that EA had been working on Bard's Tale 4 and then scrapped the project. Why ever for? This is one of the most historical game series ever. If it had not been for Bard's Tale, Wizardry and Might and Magic the computer RPG's would have never made the hit that they have.
Let's get Bard's Tale 4 finished and released. It will bring in all the nostalgic games to bear with little effort. I would not be suprised if it made sales history. If it incorporated todays standards in game engines with Bard's Tale history of great scenarios and depth it would be a sure kill! I would be one the pre-order list, guaranteed.

Well, like most of the FREAKS who are petitioning here, I too played/beat the entire BT series back on my C64.
THE BEST roleplaying game I ever played (Fallout 1 & 2 are coming VERY close though!)
Although I would WELCOME and CRY if there was an announced BT4, I must state that if the same effort is put as FALLOUT or BALDURS GATE, then I want in.
We've been waiting far too long to have a disappointing sequel.
I am also afraid that Part III - Thief of Fate (my favorite) ended the story so well with the characters beating Tarjan on his home plane of Malefia and thus becoming GODS themselves, it will be a challenge indeed to introduce a new chapter to this series. What now? A WAR AMONG THE BARDS TALE GODS, perhaps?

I wish to sign the petition asking that Electronic Arts please allow someone to have the rights to create a Bard's Tale IV. Of the hundreds of computer games I have played over the years, the Bard's Tale series has definitely got to be the most memorable and loved. The very first game I ever played on my Commodore 64 was Bard's Tale II. I have been replaying the series recently and enjoy it just as much as I did before.
Another thought is that since work had been done on a Bard's Tale IV but never completed, perhaps what has been done could be released to the loving care of the BT fans? Maybe we could complete it?
Why end a good thing? CRPGs are making a comeback (not that they were ever dead), the technology now allows you to do things that were before unimaginable, and you have a very solid fan base.

I have to agree, scrapping bt4 was a tragic waste.I know I would've bought it right away without even thinking about it.Obviously, the people making these decisions haven't even played these games.I think the person in charge should be someone familiar with this genre of games and not some accountant,or whatever, whose idea of a computer game is something a little less complicated, like solitaire,or for the advanced gamer, maybe even minesweeper!!!

Hello,
My name is John Hamilton. I am a 30 year old male, professional programmer that started computer role-playing games with the Bard's Tale series. "The Bard's Tale"(TBT) was absolutely the best CRPG I have ever played. Most games today offer little in the way of plot or characters. TBT had it all. Great plots, great puzzles, great action, great character classes ( I sure do miss monks ), and great villains. I actually miss playing those games. Sure they seem antiquated when it comes to the visual aspect of it, but the games offered so much more than eye candy. I don't even care that they are turn based. I think real-time strategy is overrated. Games today often leave very little to the gamers' imaginations. TBT left much to your imagination. That is what really made them fun and is what epitomizes the role-playing genre.
I hope beyond hope that many more like minded gamers will petition in favor of the release of a new Bard's Tale and that Electronic Arts and Interplay find their way to making it. Just be sure to take note of what made the originals great.
Regards,
John Hamilton

Hiya,
I have played the entire Trilogy on my old apple II/e YEARS ago...
Recently, I bought the RPGPack from Interplay and already finished Bard's Tale I, now Questing on the glamerous Destiny Stone in search of the last segment and the defeat of Lagoth Zantha.
Bard's Tale III would be a breeze, but what is to come next ? Will my characters stay on the HD Forever ? Why let them rot in their glory whilst they could relive the excitement in a new quest of the Bards ?
I want a Bard's Tale IV, PETITION ME ! So that Baenrha the Bard can tell some more tales of gore and glory !
Let my voice be heard, and let the bards go for another round of Dragon's Breath (Just to impress the lackies of the Tavern).
Signed,
Tal Shterzer, a Bard's Tale Fan from Israel.

A single desire echoed from voice to voice has to be heard sooner or later...doesn't it? By all means either release BT4 or at sell the rights. Forget about market surveys that check what 17 year olds want, why not ask what we mid 20's and up want, after all we do all the buying now. When I was younger, I did all I could to get the Bards Tale series. And besides anyone who finished the final has a real bone to pick, I mean you killed the old man at the review board in Skara Brea. You did give us all a star, but there simply has to be more ....Come on give in..Please :)

I, like so many others, have played the Bard's Tale epic since childhood . For many of us (myself included) have dreamed of walking in the Bard's Tale realm to fight along side our characters. Always, we have managed to feel at home in the Bard's Tale game. I wish to sign this petition, in the hopes that someday, someone (heck I'm willing to help!) will begin to design and implement the next Bard's Tale game.
The few things that I would like to see in the new game, are perhaps an overview shot of the characters, though the original design is still a classic. The game must have a main plot (goal) with several smaller plots (similar to BT3), be focused in the same world environment, and be able to upgrade BT3 characters (at least) into it (Even if the characters are upgraded naked! (ie. no armor, etc)) (wishful thinking?). The last thing I would like to see in the game is for the spells to be scrollable (perhaps Combo-box approach) when selecting, and perhaps with their expanded name along side the acronym.
An idea about the concept for the plots could be ranged around after the death of Tarjan, the heros must give up their god-like powers to join up and help restore the lands to their former glory. And in the end, perhaps the party will be faced with a question "Who among you will die for the land?", and if you answer ALL (though this wouldn't be known right away, only after your party's journeying), .... Or I'm sure others have many, many other ideas.
Lastly (I know so long, but there are so many reasons for another game....), I think their should be a map editor, so people could create maps, and share them with others to 'randomize', and keep the play original!!!

I just have to say that I congratulate Interplay on it's achievement of the Bard's Tale trilogy :). I just hope with all the hype by the fans of this series, that it won't be a closed set.
Of all the web sites I've seen for Bard's Tale, I think there's enough market there to release a game. How big it would be is still to be scrutinized. But for episode 4, my personal opinion on the engine is simply to stick with the classic.
If #4 is released under the name of 'Bard's Tale 4', I truly think it should stick to the grid based mapping type engine. That, after all, is what helped make the game so unique and great. If people want to see a far more modernized, 3d enhanced, overhead view kind of game, I think that totally ruins the atmosphere of the Bard's Tale universe. If a game like that is to be released, I think it should be more of a spin-off than a sequel.
Bard's Tale needs to keep it's traditional, unique point of view. My view on RPG's is simply that an RPG doesn't need fancy graphics, ground-breaking effects and entertaining visuals to be good. Storyline and plot are the main thing in a game like this. That's why Bard's Tale was so good.
Interplay, or whoever decides to take up the project, don't stray from the greatness :) If the game, BTW, is 99% complete (as I read in a response to a mailing), why doesn't someone just finish it? Ah well. If people think there isn't enough market to support a game of the normal modern size, then as I said, make the game smaller, don't spend so much money on it. Get some fans to make the storyline, use the original engine. Who cares... as long as Bard's Tale keeps it's tradition going. I'm sure fans would buy it, even if it were only $20 :) cuz we know it'll be good.
Well, those are just my humble opinions... keep BT going... :)

Sign me up for Bard's Tale IV(and V, and VI, and, well, you get the idea). Bard's Tale I was my first introduction to CRPGs, and it hooked me for life. The music, the scenery, the heroes, and the monsters, helped to immerse me in a world in which I made a difference. Bard's Tales II and III made the experience even better. No other game, even with today's high graphic standards, has made me feel quite that same way again. Man, I even miss the spinner traps and sections of darkness... well, maybe I don't quite miss those two things...

Absolutely I agree to this petition. My personal goal is to see The Bard's Tale, The Destiny Knight and even the Thief of Fate remade in modern resolutions with modern sound for modern PCs (and in keeping with the Apple tradition of Bard's Tale even the Macintosh). Optimally, Michael Cranford could be convinced to work on the new releases of the first two.
I further agree that games today focus far too much on high-speed action and not enough on actual game play, thought and strategy. People have gotten used to beating the game within a single session and no longer think about building up characters and figuring their way through things. There's an entire generation of game players who have never seen these games and might enjoy them.

The best thing I like about the Bard's tales are that you have to make your own maps. It's a really big pain, but when you're done, you KNOW where you are all the time.

Please add two signatures(people) to your petition for a Bard's Tale IV!! My wife and I are playing the entire series (I, II, & III). I still had my original Bard's Tale disks and maps when we began. We found the second BT in a discount bin in a computer store.
The addition of a fourth Bard's Tale would do several things: 1. Continue the best RPG to date; 2. Reward many fans for the loyalty and commitment to the Bard's Tale Series; and 3. Promote interest in the earlier games!
I hope you will consider creating a fourth edition. If not for commercial release...at least for the followers of the series!
Sincerely

I think there is a strong following for Bard's Tale. I have played all 3, beating each one as well (well, I had to cheat at #2:). Since internet games are becoming more popular, I think a version of BT similar to EverQuest or UOL may have some merit. In any case, I would definately purchase BT IV , even if it was the original!
I hope BT 4+ will make it.

I remember back in 1989 I purchased the Bards Tale III game for the C64 and was in heaven. It had and still does have all the elements of a great game. I recently dug out my old c64 and hooked it up and I am enjoying it just as much as I did when I first discovered the Bards Tale. I own a pc and a Playstation but I find myself spending most of my gaming time on my old C64 just to play the Bards Tale. I think if the Bards Tale series continued it would have been a very successful game like Ultima or Final Fantasy. I think it could still make a great inpact in crpg world. I cant think of many games that have been discontinued for a decade and have the same strong following as the Bards Tale. I'm sure if Bards Tale IV was released it would be an instant success. I have yet to find a game on any platform that has given me as much enjoyment as the Bards Tale games. I would buy Bards Tale IV, V, VI and so on if they were released.

C'mon Folks At EA!
I'd love to see another Bard's Tale game. I've purchased all three games for my C=64, again for my Amiga {+Const. Set} and again for my PC [a pity that the PC graphics are way worse than the 64's] [+ the PC Const. Set] I'd definately buy a new Bard's Tale game if Interplay were permitted to make and market the game. It is more enjoyable to play than a lot of the newer, "popular" games like quake...mainly because the Bard's Tale series actually require a working brain not just an itchy trigger/button finger. In fact I just dug up my Amiga 500 my other 2 Amys are dead [RIP] for the sole purpose of playing the Bard's Tale series again! [Better Graphics on the Amiga versions]
And frankly folks as a teacher I have used the Bard's Tale games to teach both simple mapping skills and some simple problem solving skills too. Now I'm afraind I can't recommend too many other games for this purpose.

A new game? Cool. I'd probably pay up to $40.00, maybe more if it looked good. But they should make new games anyway, even if they have to give it a new look. Zork did it, why not give The Bard's Tale a chance? The whole simplicity of the game makes the storylines works of computer art. The only thing I would really want to see is a villain who starts out as your enemy, but eventually becomes an ally (a bit like the X-Files 'Critchek.'

I would love to see a #4, and would buy it the very second it hit the shelves! What I liked about the first 3 is the simplicity of the games. I really wouldn't change too much about the game if a fourth is to come except for minor details, like graphics, new spells/armor/weapons/etc. But I would defenitily keep the game play the same. Maybe a little more wilderness adventuring, maybe an enhanced inventory screen. Different graphic for every weapon and armor type. And maybe put it into a isometric 3rd person and have outfits on characters change as they change weapons and armor, and so that we could see some cool spells cast also. Thanks Brad

To Whom This May Concern,
The first game I ever got for my Apple IIGS was The Bard's Tale. I first played this game at the local town library, where we could play for 1/2 hour a day if we signed up for it. Anyways, it was the ONLY game I would play. I also got BT2 as soon as it came out, and needless to say I was one of the first in the entire state of NJ to get the BT3 when it was released. It may sound cheesy, but the Bard's Tale is part of my life. To this day, I have my Apple IIGS if only because I still can play all 3 Bard's Tales on it. There are more memories to them than anything else in my life. I can still hum almost every song by heart, and I can give almost any spell by class, level and code. I grew up playing BT with my friends. For the last 10 years, I have languished waiting for the Bard's Tale IV to come out, and now that I see this petition it is almost as if God has heard my prayers. I would be willing to pay $40-$100 dollars (seriously, I would pay whatever to get a BT 4). I would love to see it along the same exact type of game play as the other 3, and with some new classes, new spells, of course new lands to roam. Make it bigger; since the BT3 we have sooooo much new technology. This game is what made all those games such as Quake and Doom possible. I am going to petition the other people at EA, since I personally know of at least 3 other people who would buy this game. And I would buy a few copies if that is what it takes. Also, I would be more than happy to help out by play testing or doing whatever else is possible to help make this game a reality. Beta testing... you name it. Just please, we need this game out there! The series is too good to let it go!
Thanks for letting me vent 10 years of anticipation... Tony Aschettino South River, NJ :)

My first enthralling experience with the Bard's Tale was on an Apple IIgs years and years and years ago when I was but a young Bard and could barely play the mandolin well enough to inspire my party to take to the dive into the Sewers! Old Mangor (ugliest mug I ever did see) is long since dead but O how those memories haunt me to this day. No other RPG inspired me quite like that!
I liked the idea of the BT Construction Set but it just didn't quite match the original I knew (IIgs) though it was a far cry better than the original IBM versions of BT - especially the later sequals which seemed to lose graphics and sound quality as the plot thickened in each new sequal. Then the Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures Gold Box Design Program came out and no other design kit could compare. I even set out right away to introduce the world of Forgotten Realms and Gold Box D&D to the great Bard's Tale experience, unfortunately one thing has held me back from my dreams...
I have long since that first BT experience graduated from those old Apple machines to IBM and somewhere along the way lost all my old IIgs game disks. So ever since I have been scouring the countryside and combing the deserts and plumbing the murky depths of the cyber seas in search of both an Apple IIgs to IBM emulation program and the original Apple IIgs version of The Bard's Tale... alas, to no avail. :(
If you are not familiar with this version let me just tell you from one BT lover to another... SUPERIOR IN EVERY WAY TO THE IBM VERSIONS!!!! You would not believe the difference! The graphics were way ahead of their time with beautifully done animations SO LIFE LIKE! Each monster's facial expressions twitched and wrinkled in the most natural way. And oh the sounds! Music to my ears. I swear that no game on the market then and perhaps since then has compared to that Apple IIgs version of Bard's Tale. I have even looked for old IIgs's for sale JUST TO PLAY THAT GAME AGAIN!
You should have seen the skeletons! How their evil hearts burned with an emanating glow which burned behind bleached bones and throbbed like a ghostly heartbeat - the pulse of hell mocking jealously the lifeforce of the living. And watch his eyeball roll out of it's socket and back in through it's jaw bones through the hollow skull and back up to it's socket again. Even the walls of the Catacombs writhed with living snakes which moved skulls about as it passed!
I am telling you without exageration the combination of graphics and sound and the program's perfect seamlessness and smooth scrolling action all add up to one thing. A feast for all your senses not just a great plot which ofcourse it has. Infact, this is the only version in which I felt the plot and content of Bard's Tale was done justice. If you can help me at all or have seen this version in action to and just want to reminesce about it please feel free to repsond.
Best regards from a fellow BT enthusiast, Ken

How much money would a Bard's Tale IV be worth? ALL the money! I grew-up on Bard's Tale. A Bard's Tale IV would be perfect right now due to all the RPG action brought on by Playstation hits like Final Fantasy 7 and Xenogears. Just thought I'd say first of all that I've been a huge fan of the Bard's Tale series since my first computer (A PC Jr.... ~LOL~) and has been wanting to see a new BT game for ages... After sorting thru a lot of my old floppies, I managed to dig up my old copies of Bard's Tale games (which I promptly played again after backing them up). It is one of those classic games that had been a source of nostalgia to the "good old days" of RPGing. They're still fun games as I had remembered. I thought I'd show my support by adding to the petition.
Likes: Game pace, amount of places to explore, puzzles with solutions within the game itself, well-designed character and spell system, classic RPG feel, the batch spell (hope there's a way to customize spell batches if there's a BT4), ability to transfer characters, the general feel of the world (it is pretty richly set), multi-player party (rare in first person RPG's today), turn based combat.
Dislike: The now-outdated interface and graphics (but it does run EXTREMELY Fast on a P3... hehe), might be a tad difficult for new players (maybe tone it down some.), those d*mn darkness squares, lack of interactivity with the environments, character portraits in BT2, tiny inventory, lack of diversity in items, the relatively small difference a point or two of trait increase made, unrealistically large monster parties.
Would like to see: More Bardsongs, a custom spell system, more refined combat interface, better character portraits (although BT1's were considerably better than BT2's... heh), 3D graphics (but not necessarily taken to the free-roaming setup as Doom or Heretic), Better Automapping feature, and an adventure journal.
That's about it... I probably got a little too wordy, but I do like my BT games quite a bit... =)

I would LOVE to have Bard's Tale IV, V and VI!!!! I've played RPGs since Ultima 1 (the early 80's) on the Apple II systems and believe that the Bard's Tale series is the best of the best. The Bard's Tale trilogy (and Ultima series) is the basis of comparison for every RPG that's come out since the early 80's. Since Bard's Tale was so far ahead of it's time, I'm sure part IV would prove to be the new standard for all RPGs to come. Graphical tap-dancing around a shoddy plot and 3-D imaging from modern processors can't compete or compare with the clever and intriguing Bard's Tale trilogy. PLEASE allow the legacy to continue!!! I'd easily be willing to pay up to $100 for this release.

Oh, my.
Where to begin.
I remember seeing The Bards Tale running for the first time on an Amiga 1000 that a friend of mine owned. I was impressed and immediatly entralled. Being 10 years old, it wasn't a simple matter to buy a computer and the game, but I managed to save up the $249 I needed to buy a Commodore 64 and The Bards Tale. I played that game for years. Imagine my surprise, when at the age of 12 I saw The Bard's Tale II in a local store here in Portland! Soon after, The Bard's Tale III was released.
I look back on The Bard's Tale series as the best of what can be in a computer game series. It's a shame that EA is not willing to produce a new game in the series.
Now, what I would like for The Bard's Tale IV -- more of the same, with new modern enhancements! Make it a real-time 3D game, first person preferred, in keeping with the original first-person view of the series. Make the storyline relate to the old stories. In fact, I would like to see the game begin in Skara Brae, and expand into the Relms.
If Interplay is willing to write The Bard's Tale IV, I beg EA to allow them to do so! I will preorder a copy NOW, this very minute, if I only could.

I got into the Bard's Tale world a bit late, playing BT III on my C64 (never played BT I or II, back then games were hard to come by). At that time, I had already played the first few Ultimas, but one thing I loved about BT III that none of the Ultimas had were the songs that the bard could play and the things these songs did. I would hum these song all the time and a number of time would just load the game to listen to music. I also very much liked the spells in BT III (can you say Gotterdamurung..... ok, how about Nuke instead) and the different types of spell casters (Conjurer, Magician....Archmage...). I have never seen a game since BT III that had this neat system of type and level.
I truly loved this game, and would very much like to see BT IV. But if infact BT IV was developed (completed or not) in 1990, then perhaps a BT V would be more appropriate for this day and age of PIIIs, 3D boards and 64+ Megs memory. It would be neat to see this newer BT with online multiplayer capabilities (or even as an online mulitpalyer world), and if BT IV was finished or close to it in 1990, finishing touches can be added to it and it could be bundle with BT V.

Bard's Tale is too good a game to die young. All the Ultimas and Wizardry games will never replace it. Someone should do a Bard's Tale 4. I don't care who. If nobody steps up, fill me in, I'm signing up.

I'd love for EA or whoever to continue the Bard's Tale series! IV and more! I would pay the going game prices if the game was up to it. I remember playing Bard's Tale on a Amiga 500 and that game looked better than the ones coming off the Ultimate RPG archives for the PC! I bought the RPG archive, Wizardry, and D&D games because I loved Bard's Tale so much. Please bring it back!

Have you seen Ultima IX yet? The box alone weighs 10 lbs. What would BT IV have to do to compete? Simple. Be created by interplay. Lets clear up the "Rights" issue and get this thing made.
I have BT II and III on my pc and still travel around Tangramayne at lightning speed. No other game have I played as much or know so well. It's time for a new generation of internet fiends and addicts to be introduced to the world of the Bard.
Make it internet and ipx friendly and you will make money! Lets go.

Dear Interplay,
As a long time fan and buyer of your games, I was playing Baldur's Gate and my mind wondered back to the good old days of Bard's Tale. I was think about how cool it would be if you would if you where to breathe new life into this classic with today's gaming technology. Bard's Tale has long stood in a class all it's own in the RPG computer game world! Please consider this. I could type out a hundred of ideas on how you could do this. But I know you get this stuff all the time. Just a thought. I know I'd be first in line to buy it. Shoot I still play Bard's Tale!

Yeah, Bard's Tale rules, I am playing it right now again. Sadly, the Construction Kit wasn't that good. Well, anyone heard of SSI's new POOL OF RADIANCE? A good example for follow-ups for classics! I am working for SSI (but very, very far down the ladder :-) ).... There are a lot of other classics that could be great remakes, I am thinking of stuff like Carrier Command... Anyone out there on this planet who can program? Me and some friends are designing an old-school Roleplaying Game with emphasis on Story... Just join in into the Fun! We are really in need of some programming help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CU

Please make BT IV. The Bard's Tale games were simply the best rpg's ever made, and nothing since has even come close. I would be 1st in line to buy BTIV if it were produced.

I think there should be two modes of play: one for walking around, and another mode for interactive battles. This way, there can be an id-ish quality that will hook younger players, and we can have the puzzles and atmosphere of the series. (The first versions of Duke Nukem were 2D!! BT can certainly make the leap to action/ adventure)
Also, if you don't want to do it, please liscence it to Interplay, there are lots of people there who would love to write

Hi,
I'm on my Christmas break from school and am going through BT 1 again. That game never ceases to amaze me. It is the best RPG ever made, bar none.

To whom it may concern:
Please add my name to the petition to release the Bard's Tale name from Electronic Arts and/or to encourage Interplay Productions to resume development of the series.
I played all three games when I was a kid, and I've yet to find a game that matches the "magic" of TBT. Although antiquated-looking by today's standards, TBT encouraged gamers to use their imagination, while providing just enough visual "goodies" to make the overall gaming experience amazing. It also had some of the coolest villains and puzzles in gaming history.
I played Bard's Tale 1 and 2 on an Apple IIGS and Bard's Tale 3 on an Apple II. If Interplay were ever to release another in this series, I hope they'd make a Macintosh version.
I'm a graphic designer/new media professional... and I would be interested in working on a Bard's Tale IV project if one ever came into fruition.
The folks at EA and Interplay are NOT thinking logically if they believe the Bard's Tale is dead -- just look at the recent resurgence of circa 1980 games -- arcade games like Centipede, Frogger, and Pong have recently made a comeback. I'm sure there are plenty of 20 and 30somethings that would buy Bard's Tale 4 without batting an eye -- just to recapture a little bit of their youth again.
Best of luck in the efforts to get BT4 back on track... Please add my name to the list, and again, if the project does develop, keep me in mind if you need help with graphics or game concept.

Wish list: Real 3d movement like the German "DSA 3-Schatten über Riva". More bard songs. More character classes like Knight or Assassin. Ability to split parties like the "DSA" trilogy.

I still compare all current adventure games to the Bard's Tale series. They are simply the best series of adventure games created to date. I especially liked the riddles. It made the game more than just search and fight. I would definately buy the next installment should it ever be made.
